about us

Before I joined Windsor Speakers, the fear that coursed through my body when I had to speak in front of even a small amount of people was exhausting, and extremely frustrating. Why was it that I could easily speak on a one-to-one basis to the eight members of my team at work, but put me infront of all of them at once in a team meeting, and I was a jibbering wreck?

As with all fears, the only way I could conquer it was to face it. I searched online, and stumbled across the Windsor Speakers club website. I visited the club as a guest to see what it was like, and I was warmly welcomed and looked after. I saw how its members had overcome their fears of public speaking, and were able to stand before an audience and talk about their chosen subjects with confidence and enthusiasm, and I wanted that ability.

I decided it could do me no harm, and I joined, and I'm so glad I did. As my speaking skills have developed, my career and general self-confidence have benefitted greatly. I never would have believed it, but I now jump at every opportunity to speak to groups of people or deliver presentations!

As a visitor at our club, you will be warmly welcomed. You will not be forced to do anything you don't want to do, so you can just watch from the audience if you wish. If you decide to join however, you can make use of this safe and supportive environment to practice alongside us, as you become a confident and effective public speaker.

Dean,
Club President and Webmaster.

I joined Windsor Speakers as I wanted to develop a new skill. Having watched the professionals deliver speeches I thought this would be a distant dream. The idea of standing in front of an audience gave me goose bumps. After joining Toastmasters I very quickly appreciated the ability to develop public speaking skills was very much within my grasp. I’ve found the journey extremely rewarding. Having been a Toastmaster for over five years now I’m still an enthusiastic member.

I’m now able to stand in front of an audience and present without nerves and with complete confidence. I feel empowered and energised rather than the bag of nerves I was when I delivered my first speech. Not only have I developed a great new skill but I’ve also made some good friendships along the way.

Windsor Speakers Club provides a wonderfully friendly and supportive environment for people of any age, nationality, background and profession. You will notice a difference after just a few speeches. Project manuals are well structured and concentrate on specific elements which take you through your initial speech to becoming a competent communicator after just ten speeches. Every speech is evaluated, providing constructive feedback and individual support is on hand through the mentoring program.

Everyone has to start somewhere .... don’t feel daunted or shy, Windsor Speakers provides an excellent platform to begin your speaking career. It’s a great club and worth a visit. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Jean,
Vice President of Mentoring.

I initially joined Toastmasters because I was performing poorly in job interviews and was generally not confident in public speaking situations. I realised that to improve I would need to gain the consistent practice that Windsor Speakers provides.

Windsor Speakers has given me the chance to practice my presentation skills in an encouraging and supportive environment and receive valuable feedback from more experienced members of the club. I have been able to practice a range of different public speaking techniques to make my speeches more engaging.

When not speaking, I enjoy listening to the varied and interesting speeches of other club members, it is certainly more entertaining than an evening in front of the TV!

I have also had the chance to take on leadership roles such as the Sergeant at Arms role which I currently fulfil. This involves preparing the speaking venue before each session.

I have certainly found attending Windsor Speakers to be hugely beneficial and enjoyable. I would encourage you to visit us, you will certainly be welcomed.

Matthew,
Sargeant at Arms.

I joined Windsor Speakers three years ago in order to improve my confidence and verbal communication. Since becoming a member, I have felt that confidence and communication improve dramatically, along with my overall self esteem.

Since becoming a toastmaster, I have been conquering my fears of public speaking and have also gained some valuable leadership skills which are helping me in all areas of my life including work, social situations; just about any situation!

Most people are fearful of public speaking but just imagine the feeling of accomplishment once that fear has been addressed.

With a friendly, positive network of people offering encouragment along the way, I guarantee joining Windsor Speakers will change your life for the better.

Pete,
Vice President of Education.

I joined this club soon after being made redundant from a job that I had loved, and strangely I believed it defined me. So having been cast aside I realised that I had to find my own definition and face my fears.

It has been a journey. With admiration, I have watched speakers at various levels of accomplishment putting themselves on show, talking about things that matter to them. What courage.

I can tell you that everyone improves, it is a lovely safe environment to test your abilities, recognise your strengths and weaknesses and all of this gives you ideas for the future.

Being a part of this club has made me realise things I am good at, things I can improve on, and things I would like to achieve. It has made me consider other occupations.
The scope for personal development in this environment is huge.

Pollyanna,
Vice President of Membership.

I joined toastmasters because my boss became very good at public speaking after joining a speakers club, and I was impressed when i visited Windsor Speakers. When i first joined the club, I was very nervous giving speeches and presentations for work.

Now I have delivered many presentations, confidently, at ease with no signs of nervousness thanks to Windsor Speakers. Joining has many benefits and is far more effective than following a course for a few days.

Windsor Speakers provides the structure, support, encouragement, feedback and the required learning experience to become a better speaker.

Roshan,
Social Secretary.

I joined Windsor Speakers to improve my ability to convey my thoughts more confidently to a wider audience. I was keen to overcome my fear of public speaking and come across more confident in my speech delivery.

The club operates in a very friendly manner which enabled me to hone my speaking skills and keep improving them in a positively supported environment. In the past, I had only admired people who were good at public speaking. Since joining the club, I believe I am on the way to gaining that ability myself.

Through a step by step approach of projects for prepared speeches and impromptu topic speeches, Windsor Speakers has helped me develop a valuable skill in public speaking.

The members of the club have varied skill-levels in public speaking. Everyone is keen to help each other through positive feedback, mentoring and evaluations. A novice or a seasoned speaker gets better with each speech at the club and continues to improve by learning from each other.

Saurabh,
Club Secretary.

At times in my work, I have been in daunting situations where I've needed to present to a boardroom of executives or to groups as large as eight hundred people.

You can read books on the art and science of public speaking but there's really only one way to get good at it. You've got to do it-again and again and again-and this is where Toastmasters excels. It offers a beautifully designed program that coaches speech, evaluation and leadership skills.

The environment at Windsor Speakers is friendly and supportive and I invite you to come along and experience it for yourself.

Mark,
Vice President of Public Relations.

Late last year I found myself searching the internet for yet another cure for my fear of public speaking. I have tried different prescriptions for this affliction in the past but none has worked so far. Until Windsor Speakers popped up on my Internet search results that is!

My first Windsor Speakers meeting was around Christmas. I remember walking to the meeting room door with trepidation but had the resolve to carry through with it. So, I found myself in the Windsor Speakers Club. I received a warm welcome and one of the members looked after me for the evening. The structured approach, along with the informal and friendly environment has helped me to deliver far more impactful speeches since that day.

I realise now that the best way to overcome the fear of public speaking is by actually speaking in public! At Windsor Speakers you will get the support and feedback to help you on the journey to becoming a competent and confident public speaker.

Tony,
Club Treasurer.
